Background
Some 1.5 million gold half eagles were minted in Philadelphia in 1900. A decent amount of this date survived in high grade, as evidenced by the NGC population which shows over 200 coins in gem or higher. 1895 Liberty Head Five Dollar NGC MS-62. $18.99 shipping. 1912 Indian Head Five Dollar PCGS MS-62. $1,099.95 $ 1,099. $24.99 shipping. 1911 Indian Head Five Dollar PCGS MS-62. $1,099.95 $ 1,099. $24.99 shipping. $5.00 Gold Half Eagle Denominational 2-Coin. Liberty Head Five Dollar gold coins in average condition are worth about $340-$380. There are many rare dates scattered throughout the series but usually only the most common dates after 1880 are generally seen. The rarest dates would include the 1875, and just about all the San Francisco Mint pieces from the 1860's. The 1903-S gold Liberty half eagle has a mintage of over 1.8 million coins. It is quite common today, especially in the lower mint state grades. However, the coin becomes less common in gem, and quite rare in higher levels of preservation. Jun 01, 2016 Characteristics The obverse design of the $5 gold coin is a rendition of the Old Mint modeled on the original 1869 construction drawing by A.B. The reverse design is a replica of the 1906 Half-Eagle Coronet Liberty eagle reverse, designed by Christian Gobrecht.
The United States Congressional coin was first struck on June 14, 1989 at a ceremony outside of the Capitol. It commemorates the Bicentennial of the U.S. Congress.
